Coatinc

Quality improvement at a galvanizing company in Groningen

Background information

Coatinc Groningen is a modern galvanizing company, part of the international Coatinc Company, where among other things they pre-treat, galvanize and powder-coat steel products to give them a highly durable protective layer.

The challenge

The logistics department plays a vital role within Coatinc. The company's speedy delivery time gives them a competitive advantage. Coatinc, however, wants to further optimize its logistics process and thereby shorten the delivery times even more. In order to optimize you have to know what needs improvement, and where in the process this improvement should take place. At Coatinc they realised that they didn't have sufficient insight into the operations that were going wrong in the logistics process; mistakes that could lead to clients receiving their delivery too late, incomplete or sometimes not at all. It was obvious that Coatinc needed a clear picture of these mishaps.

The solution

The ideal method for Coatinc to gain a structured insight was to register all possible failures and disruptions in the logistic and production process via the mobile app. Employees are now walking around registering everything that disrupts the flow or goes wrong at once using the mobile app. When necessary they can also include some pictures.

The identified disruptions can immediately be linked to corrective and prevetive actions. These action lists make it clear as to whether the operations that go wrong are actually being solved. Using the trend analysis it is possible to predict if a failure is going to repeat itself or if it has been permanently solved.
