Start improving!

STOP getting stuck in old habits. START improving!

A little girl was watching her mother prepare fish for dinner. Her mother cut the head and tail off each fish before placing them in the frying pan. The girl asked her mother why she did that. "I don't know," she replied. "Your grandmother did it this way."

So the girl went to her grandmother and asked her the same question. Grandma thought for a while and replied, "I don't know. My mother did it that way."

So the little girl visited her great-grandmother and asked her why she cut off the head and tail of the fish before frying it. Her great-grandmother smiled and answered: “Because my frying pan was too small.“

This little story gives you an example of how easily people get stuck in their habits - mostly unconsciously and for no good reason. How many times do you hear, or do you say it yourself, "We have always done it like that" or "It works well this way"? This happens in daily life, as well as in business.

If something has always been done in a certain way, and it works, it does not mean that there isn't a better way of doing it. Even if it's just a very small improvement. In this example: using a slightly larger frying pan.

Continuous improvement is all about making small, incremental improvements every day. Stimulate your employees to do so. It costs little and can be done very quickly.
